#SundayStills ~ It’s all about #Pink #Nature #Photography

Welcome to the Sunday Stills feature hosted by Terry Webster Shrandt.

This week’s theme is ‘The Pink Side of Life’ so a pretty orchid for the header photo and pink clouds at sunrise.

Pink flowers add a splash of colour to the small Saxon church of St John the Baptist in Edlingham, Northumberland.

Pink hebe with butterfly and bee…

and a blue tit amid the blossom.

Vibrant pink flowers alongside one of the many pathways running through Bodnant Gardens in North Wales.

And a pink backdrop to one of the historical tableaux to be found in St Andrews castle in Scotland.

This week’s theme is orange – burnt orange to blood orange. I’ve sneaked in a little russet as well.

The orange tones on these flowers make them stand out.

A lovely sunset taken from our last house.

Although known as robin redbreast, the colour is actually more orange than red, as with the Red Admiral in the header photo.

The theme this week is your garden. Since we moved at the end of March this year, the garden has been a work in progress, and still is, but the plants have been growing well and there’s quite a bit of colour.

This Great spotted Woodpecker seemed happy to sit on the fence for a while

Strictly speaking the fox wasn’t in the garden but he could have been! He (or she) was in the field on the other side of the fence.

We don’t have a huge garden but I wanted to add a tree. I went for a rowan and buddleja, which aren’t trees, I know, but great for pollinators.

#SundayStills ~ Exploring the Great Outdoors #Nature #Landscape

Welcome to the Sunday Stills feature hosted by Terri Webster Shrandt. This week the prompt is the ‘Great Outdoors’

This photo, along with the header, were taken on the beautiful Llanddwyn Island, a small tidal island off the coast of Anglesey, facing out over the Irish Sea and the southern entrance to the Menai Strait, with views of Snowdonia.

The following images were taken on walks in and around Snowdonia. All these photos encapsulate my idea of the great outdoors.

The view from Dunster castle in Somerset, over the edge of Exmoor National Park towards the Bristol Channel.

#SundayStills ~ Sunrise and Sunset Skies #naturePhotography

Welcome to the Sunday Stills feature hosted by Terri Webster Shrandt. This week the prompt is sunrise and sunset. The photos are all from the archives.

We had some lovely sunrises where we used to live…

…as well as sunsets, although more often than not there was cloud. These were taken from the living room window.

The sun going down over Conwy, you can just see the silhoutte of the castle towers.

SS6

This and the header photo was sunset on Llanddwyn Island on Anglesey taken from slightly different angles. It had been a beautifully clear day and the island was crowded with people intent on catching the sunset.

Happy summer solstice

#SundayStills ~ Celestial Skies #Nature #Photography

Welcome to the Sunday Stills feature, hosted by Terry Webster Shrandt. Today’s prompt is celestial, a word described as meaning ‘positioned in or relating to the sky, or outer space as observed in astronomy’

The moon is as outer space as I can get. The left image was taken just as the sun was beginning to rise, the right  as the moon was rising. The camera was focussing on the tree rather than the moon.

In the days when we could travel freely without any worries

I’ve posted these two photos before but I love them for the cloud formations. Clouds are so fascinating.

The trees look like they’re reaching for the sky.

Rather them than me!

#SundayStills ~ What is your favourite Vacation Spot? #Holidays #Leisure

Welcome to the Sunday Stills feature hosted by Terry Webster Shrandt. This week’s prompt is favourite holiday spots.

sundaystills

Over the last few years our favourite holiday spots have been in the UK. Every year we book at the very least one week, but usually more, in a dog friendly cottage, ranging from Scotland to Cornwall. Hoping to be able to do that again soon.

The header image is St Ives in Cornwall. Below left is a beach just up the coast from the town, and right is the quaint fishing village of Mevagissey.

Another favourite place is the beautiful county of Northumberland, with its fabulous beaches and stunning countryside.

Dunstanburgh Castle ruins taken from the beach and the walk to the castle.

One corner of the tidal island of Lindisfarne, just behind the castle.

Coquet Island, an RSPB nature reserve, with the Farne Islands in the far distance.

Another favourite place is Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast.

Welcome to the Sunday Stills feature hosted by Terry Webster Shrandt. The theme this week is grey.

I haven’t taken many photos lately what with one thing and another, so these are from the archives. The header photo is from a visit to the Wolf Conservation Trust a few years ago.

A grey misty valley

Dark clouds over the estuary

A grey-ish sunset

The castle ruins look stark against the cloudy sky

A lowering sky meant storms ahead, we just made it home in time.

A mixture of grey and bright white clouds over Whitby, but sure enough it wasn’t long before the rain arrived.

This week’s prompt is ‘Emerging’ and the blossom tree is budding. Not sure what kind of blossom, we’ll have to wait and see…

There’s new life pending as well. The previous owners of the house left the bird box as it was already occupied. I think this little blue tit was wondering where her/his mate was with the food.

I hardly ever take black and white photos, and I have messed around with these slightly.

The Boston skyline…

The gothic styled St Margaret’s Church with a 202 foot steeple in Bodelwyddan on the left, and the church of St Lawrence in Warkworth.

The ruins of St Dwynwen’s church, dating from the 16th century, on Llanddwyn Island

Lisa Coleman’s Bird Weekly challenge this week features Hawks

One of my favourites is Harris’s Hawk. It’s not native to Britain but is very popular in falconry so can often be seen.

Buzzards are common in the UK. They usually mate for life and survive in most habitats.

Peregrine falcons are often seen hovering over hedgerows and open fields.

A few years ago my sister and and I visited the Wolf Conversation Trust and red kites were waiting for any scraps left by the wolves after feeding time.
